Overview
Mackie Mayor is a beautifully restored Grade II listed market building in the Northern Quarter, reimagined as a communal food hall. The soaring iron-and-glass Victorian structure houses independent food traders around a shared seating area.
Highlights
- Architecture: The 1858 Smithfield meat market hall with original cast-iron columns and roof trusses.
- Food Traders: A rotating lineup of Manchester's best independent kitchens — from Neapolitan pizza to Korean fried chicken.
- Communal Atmosphere: Shared long tables under the dramatic vaulted ceiling.
History
Originally the Smithfield wholesale meat market, the building fell into disrepair after closing in the 1970s. It was rescued and restored by EMERGE, opening as a food hall in 2017.
