Overview
The Bratislava City Gallery (Galéria mesta Bratislavy) occupies the Mirbach Palace, a refined Rococo gem on Franciscan Square. It hosts contemporary art exhibitions alongside a permanent collection of historical Bratislava art.
Highlights
- Mirbach Palace: The Rococo facade and ornamental stucco interiors are works of art in themselves.
- Temporary Shows: Regularly rotating exhibitions of Slovak and international contemporary art.
- Pálffy Palace: The gallery's second venue on the opposite side of the square shows additional exhibitions.
History
The Mirbach Palace was built in 1768–1770 for a brewery magnate. It passed through several owners before becoming the city gallery in 1975. The building was fully restored in the early 2000s.
