Splavovi (River Clubs)

Overview

The splavovi (singular: splav) are Belgrade's famous floating river clubs — hundreds of barges and pontoons moored along the Sava and Danube, pumping music from sunset until dawn. Belgrade's nightlife reputation is largely built on these unique waterborne venues.

• All-Night Parties: Many splavovi operate until 5:00 or 6:00 AM, with DJs and live acts playing electronic, pop-folk, and turbo-folk music.

History

The splav culture emerged in the 1990s during the era of international sanctions, when Belgrade's youth created a parallel nightlife scene on abandoned river barges. What started as improvised parties grew into a multi-million-euro entertainment industry with hundreds of licensed venues.

• Tip 1: Most splavovi don't charge entry, but drinks are priced to compensate — expect €5–€10 for cocktails.
• Tip 2: Arrive after midnight; the atmosphere doesn't peak until 1:00–2:00 AM.
