Overview
Rajko Mitić Stadium, popularly known as Marakana, is the home ground of FK Red Star Belgrade and the largest football stadium in Serbia, seating over 53,000. It's a pilgrimage site for football fans, especially after Red Star's legendary 1991 European Cup triumph.
Highlights
- 1991 European Cup Legacy: Red Star Belgrade won the European Cup (now Champions League) final in 1991 in Bari — the club's greatest achievement.
- Delije Sever (North Stand): The legendary ultras section, famous for its choreography and pyrotechnics during matches.
- Stadium Tour and Museum: Guided tours include the dressing rooms, tunnel, and a trophy room with the 1991 European Cup replica.
History
The stadium was built in 1963 using volunteer labour from Red Star fans. At its peak, it held 110,000 spectators, making it one of the largest in Europe. It was named after Rajko Mitić, a legendary Red Star and Yugoslav national team striker, in 2014.
