Jūrmala is a 33-kilometre stretch of white-sand beach along the Gulf of Riga, just 25 minutes by train from Riga central station. It is the most popular seaside resort in the Baltics, with a unique mix of beachside wooden villas, pine forests, and spa traditions.
Jūrmala developed as a resort in the 19th century, when Russian aristocrats and Baltic German families built summer villas here. During the Soviet era it was a popular holiday destination for the entire USSR. Today it retains its resort character with modern spa hotels alongside heritage buildings.
