The Loggia of Heraklion is an elegant Venetian arcade built in the 17th century, serving as the meeting place for the nobility and ruling class of Venetian Candia. Designed by architect Francesco Morosini, it now houses Heraklion's City Hall and has received a Europa Nostra Prize for its meticulous restoration.
The original Loggia was built in the early 17th century by the Venetian architect Francesco Morosini (the same governor who built the fountain). Destroyed during WWII bombing, it was reconstructed stone by stone between 1951 and 1987 using original plans and surviving fragments. It won the Europa Nostra Prize for restoration in 1987.
