Georgioupolis Park (also known as Theodorakis Park) is the largest urban green space in Heraklion, situated south of the old city walls near the Martinengo Bastion. With playgrounds, walking paths, and dense Mediterranean vegetation, it is a popular weekend destination for local families.
The park was originally developed in the mid-20th century as part of Heraklion's southern urban expansion. It was recently renamed in honor of the legendary Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis, who had deep connections to Crete and composed music inspired by the island's resistant spirit during the military junta.
