History
Conceived by architect Alexander Barov, the NDK was built to celebrate Bulgaria's 1,300 years of statehood. Lyudmila Zhivkova, daughter of Communist leader Todor Zhivkov, was the driving force behind the project until her mysterious death in 1981. The building has eight floors above ground and three below.
