The Museum der Moderne Salzburg on the Mönchsberg is a striking white marble contemporary art museum perched atop the cliff that forms the western edge of the Altstadt. Its panoramic terrace offers one of the best viewpoints in Salzburg.
Opened in 2004, designed by Munich architect Friedrich Hoff Zwink. The building integrates into the cliff, with galleries partly carved into the rock. A subsidiary (Rupertinum) in the Altstadt houses the museum's graphic art and photography collection.
