Overview
The Museum of Modern Art (Moderna galerija Ljubljana) is Slovenia's premier institution for 20th- and 21st-century art. Its permanent collection traces Slovenian modern art from early Expressionism through the avant-garde OHO group to contemporary installations.
Highlights
- Slovenian Avant-Garde: Works by the OHO group and the NSK collective (Irwin, Laibach).
- International Rotating Exhibitions: Regularly hosts major traveling exhibitions from European institutions.
- 1950s Modernist Building: The gallery's clean-lined architecture is itself a notable example of post-war Slovenian design.
History
Founded in 1947, the museum moved to its purpose-built modernist building in 1953. An extension at Metelkova (+MSUM) opened in 2011, expanding the space for contemporary works.
