Overview
The Institut d'Art Contemporain (IAC) is a cutting-edge contemporary art space in Villeurbanne, on Lyon's eastern border. With a collection of over 2,000 works and a program of ambitious temporary exhibitions, it is one of France's most respected institutions for living artists.
Highlights
- The Collection: Over 2,000 works from the 1960s to the present, including major pieces by Dan Flavin, Robert Morris, and François Morellet.
- Experimental Program: Exhibitions often commission new site-specific installations, pushing the boundaries of institutional art display.
- Artist Residencies: The IAC maintains active residency programs, with artists working on-site during exhibition periods.
History
Founded in 1978 as the Nouveau Musée, it merged with the FRAC Rhône-Alpes (regional contemporary art fund) in 1998 to become the IAC. The institution occupies a former industrial building renovated by architect Jourda & Perraudin.
