Overview
Fitzroy is Melbourne's bohemian heart, a densely packed inner suburb of Victorian-era terrace houses, street art, independent boutiques, and some of the city's most inventive bars and restaurants.
Highlights
- Brunswick Street: The main artery, lined with vintage shops, bookstores, record stores, pubs, and cafes that define Melbourne's independent culture.
- Street Art: Entire building sides are covered in large-scale murals; new works appear constantly along side streets and laneways.

History
Fitzroy was Melbourne's first suburb, established in 1839. It evolved from working-class origins through waves of immigration (Italian, Greek, Vietnamese) to become the epicentre of Melbourne's counterculture and arts scene from the 1970s onward.
