Overview
Dalongdong is a deeply traditional neighborhood anchored by Bao'an Temple and the Confucius Temple, preserving the old-world atmosphere of a Taipei that has largely vanished elsewhere.
Highlights
- Temple Cluster: Three major temples within walking distance — Bao'an, Confucius, and the nearby Cisheng Temple.
- Traditional Shops: Old-fashioned rice shops, herbal medicine stores, and traditional snack vendors line the streets.
- Bao'an Cultural Festival: Spring brings weeks of temple festivals with traditional opera, puppet shows, and ritual processions.
History
Settled in the late 18th century by Fujian immigrants, Dalongdong was one of Taipei's three original settlements. The neighborhood's temple-centered social structure has remained remarkably intact.
