Overview

REXKL is a creative arts hub in the former Rex Cinema, a 1947 Art Deco movie theatre in downtown KL. Repurposed by a collective of artists and entrepreneurs, it hosts exhibitions, workshops, indie retail, and pop-up dining in the atmospheric shell of the old cinema.

History

The Rex Cinema opened in 1947 during the golden age of Malay cinema. It closed in 2002 and sat derelict until a creative collective led by Shin Chang obtained a lease in 2019 to repurpose it as a cultural venue.
