KL Forest Eco Park

Overview

KL Forest Eco Park (formerly Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve) is a 9.37-hectare patch of virgin tropical rainforest right in the city centre, at the foot of KL Tower. Established in 1906, it is the oldest permanent forest reserve in Peninsular Malaysia.

Highlights

• Canopy walkway: A 200-metre elevated boardwalk offering treetop-level views of the forest.
• Jelutong trail: A 20-minute loop through primary dipterocarp forest with interpretive signage.
• Wildlife: Long-tailed macaques, white-crested laughingthrushes, and spiderhunters are regularly spotted.

History

Gazetted in 1906 by the British Resident to protect KL's watershed, the forest has survived repeated development proposals. It remains one of only two urban tropical forests of its kind in the world.

• Leech season: After rain, bring leech socks or salt.
• Free entry: Open daily; start from the KL Tower entrance.
• Duration: 30–60 minutes.
