Overview

Pitt Street Mall is Sydney's premier pedestrianised shopping strip, running for 300 metres between King and Market Streets. Anchored by Westfield Sydney, the Strand Arcade, and the heritage David Jones flagship, it sees over 55 million visitors annually.

History

Pedestrianised in 1971, Pitt Street Mall was one of Australia's first car-free shopping zones. A 2012 redesign by Tony Caro Architecture added canopy structures and improved paving.

• Mid-week quiet: Visit Tuesday–Wednesday for smaller crowds.
