Bains des Pâquis

Overview

Bains des Pâquis is a public bathing pier jutting into Lake Geneva from the north shore — equal parts swimming spot, fondue restaurant, hammam, and neighbourhood social hub.

Highlights

• Lake swimming: Diving boards, ladders, and a sheltered pool area.
• Fondue: The legendary winter fondue evenings (October–March) are a local ritual.
• Hammam: A Turkish bath open year-round (separate entrance fee).

History

Built in 1872 and threatened with demolition in the 1980s, a citizen campaign saved the baths. They were renovated and became a protected site.

Visitor Tips

• Entry: CHF 2 from May to September; free rest of year.
• Go early: Busy on hot summer days; mornings are calmer.
• Duration: 1–3 hours.
