The Saxon Garden is Warsaw's oldest public park, opened in 1727. At its centre stands the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier—a surviving arcade of the Saxon Palace, destroyed by the Nazis—guarded 24/7 by a military honour guard.
Laid out in 1713–1727 for Augustus II the Strong, the Saxon Garden was one of the first public parks in the world. The Saxon Palace surrounding it was demolished by the Nazis in 1944.
