Gukje Market is Busan's largest traditional market, a sprawling maze of covered alleys born from Korean War refugees selling possessions, now home to thousands of shops selling clothing, food, and daily goods.
Founded during the Korean War (1950–1953) by refugees from across Korea, Gukje ('international') market took its name from the diverse origins of its vendors. It remains a vital commercial hub.
