The Rector's Palace is a Gothic-Renaissance masterpiece that served as the seat of the Rector of the Republic of Ragusa. Now Dubrovnik's city museum, its elegant atrium, arcaded loggia, and period rooms chronicle 700 years of the republic's history.
The palace has been rebuilt after multiple explosions (gunpowder was stored in the basement) and earthquakes. The Rector was essentially confined to the palace during his one-month term to prevent corruption.
