The Glockenbachviertel is Munich's most diverse and alternative neighbourhood, centred around Müllerstraße and the Gärtnerplatz theatre. It's the heart of the city's LGBTQ+ scene and home to some of Munich's best independent restaurants, bars, and vintage shops.
Named after a bell maker's workshop, the Glockenbachviertel was a working-class area until gentrification accelerated in the 2000s. Its tolerance and nightlife traditions, however, trace back to the 1960s.
