Gulhane Park

Overview

Gülhane Park is Istanbul's oldest public park, tucked against the outer walls of Topkapi Palace. Once the imperial rose gardens, it remains a verdant oasis of lawns, mature trees, and flower beds in the heart of the old city.

History

The park occupies what were once the outer gardens of Topkapi Palace. It was opened to the public in 1912, shortly before the fall of the Ottoman Empire. The first Ottoman newspaper was read aloud here in 1831.
