The Tower of the Winds is an octagonal Pentelic marble clocktower built in the 1st century BC, functioning as a sundial, water clock, and weather vane. It's one of the world's oldest meteorological stations.
Built by astronomer Andronicus of Cyrrhus around 50 BC. In early Christian times, it served as a church bell tower. Under the Ottomans, it was used as a tekke (Sufi lodge). The surrounding earth was excavated in the 19th century.
