During Madrid's scorching summers, several sections of Madrid Río are transformed into seasonal urban beach zones with wading pools, sand play areas, and water features—bringing a coastal experience to this landlocked capital.
Introduced as part of the Madrid Río park development completed in 2011, the summer beach installations reflect the city government's initiative to provide free cooling spaces during Madrid's increasingly hot summers, where temperatures regularly exceed 38°C in July and August.
