Rainbow Bridge

Overview

Rainbow Bridge is a striking 798-meter suspension bridge spanning Tokyo Bay, connecting Shibaura and the Odaiba waterfront. Its graceful curved shape and nighttime illumination have made it an iconic element of the Tokyo skyline.

Highlights

• Night Illumination: The bridge is lit in three colors (white, green, and red/pink) that change seasonally, creating a spectacular backdrop for the waterfront.
• Promenade Walk: A free 1.7km pedestrian walkway runs along the lower deck, offering panoramic views of Tokyo Bay, the skyline, and occasionally Mt. Fuji.
• Odaiba View: The bridge frames the miniature Statue of Liberty replica on the Odaiba waterfront perfectly.

History

Completed in 1993 as part of the ambitious Odaiba waterfront development project. The name "Rainbow Bridge" was chosen by public vote, and it quickly became one of Tokyo's most photographed landmarks.

Visitor Tips

• Walking: The free pedestrian promenade is open 9 AM–9 PM (April–October) and 10 AM–6 PM (November–March). Allow 30 minutes for the crossing.
• Yurikamome Line: The automated monorail crosses the bridge, offering effortless views from inside the train.
• Duration: 30–45 minutes.
