Neighborhoods in Stockholm

Gamla Stan (Old Town) is Stockholm's medieval island core—narrow cobblestone lanes, saffron-coloured buildings, and Stortorget square. The Royal Palace, cathedral, Nobel Prize Museum, and a maze of craft shops and restaurants pack its compact streets.

Södermalm ('Söder') is Stockholm's most creative and cosmopolitan neighbourhood, a hilly island south of Gamla Stan with vintage shops, craft coffee, street art, and Stockholm's best nightlife.

Norrmalm is Stockholm's commercial centre—home to NK department store, Åhléns, and the Drottninggatan pedestrian shopping street. Below ground, the T-Centralen metro station is an art gallery in itself.
