Museums in Porto

World of Discoveries is an interactive museum and theme park tracing the Portuguese Age of Exploration, with a dark ride through recreated scenes of voyages to Africa, India, and Brazil.

Serralves is Porto's contemporary art foundation, combining a striking Álvaro Siza-designed museum, an Art Deco villa, and 18 hectares of landscaped park. The permanent and rotating collections cover major international contemporary artists.

The Soares dos Reis National Museum is Portugal's oldest public museum, housed in an 18th-century palace. It specialises in 19th-century Portuguese painting and sculpture, particularly the work of António Soares dos Reis.

The Centro Português de Fotografia occupies the former Porto prison, a forbidding 18th-century building now hosting photography exhibitions and a permanent collection of historic cameras.
