Activities in Auckland

Waiheke Island is a 30-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland and offers a Mediterranean-like landscape of olive groves, vineyards, and golden beaches. It is the most visited island in the Hauraki Gulf.

SkyWalk and SkyJump are two adrenaline experiences based on Auckland's Sky Tower. SkyWalk is a hands-free walk around the tower's pergola at 192 metres, while SkyJump is a controlled 75-km/h base-jump descent to ground level.

Rangitoto Island is Auckland's youngest and largest volcano, rising symmetrically from the Hauraki Gulf. Just 600 years old, the uninhabited island is covered in the world's largest pōhutukawa forest and offers summit walks with spectacular harbour views.

Muriwai Gannet Colony is one of the few mainland Australasian gannet nesting sites, set on dramatic cliff-top platforms on Auckland's wild west coast. Between August and March, thousands of gannets nest and raise chicks within arm's reach of viewing platforms.

Kelly Tarlton's SEA LIFE Aquarium is built inside converted underground sewage storage tanks on Auckland's waterfront, featuring New Zealand's only Antarctic penguin encounter and a dramatic shark tunnel.

Tāmaki Drive is a scenic coastal road running from the CBD to the eastern bays, popular with walkers, cyclists, and runners. The route passes beaches, marinas, and waterfront parks with continuous views of the harbour and Rangitoto Island.
