Viewpoints in Genoa

The Bigo is a panoramic lift at Porto Antico inspired by the port cranes (bighi) that once loaded cargo ships. Designed by Renzo Piano, it slowly rotates as it ascends to 40 metres, offering 360-degree views over the harbour, Old Town rooftops, surrounding hills, and the open sea.

The Spianata Castelletto is a panoramic terrace perched on the hillside above the city centre, offering one of Genoa's most celebrated views. The sweeping panorama takes in the whole Old Port, the medieval rooftop skyline, the Lanterna lighthouse, and the open sea beyond.

The Lanterna is Genoa's 77-metre medieval lighthouse, standing sentinel over the western approach to the port since at least the 12th century. The tallest masonry lighthouse in the Mediterranean and one of the oldest still in operation worldwide, it is the undisputed symbol of the city.

The Santuario della Madonnetta is an 18th-century hillside sanctuary accessible by the Zecca-Righi funicular, offering unexpected panoramic views over Genoa's port and western coastline. Its quiet, elevated setting provides a contemplative escape from the bustling city below.
