Neighborhoods in Florence

The Santa Croce quarter fans out from the grand Franciscan basilica, centred on one of Florence's most charming piazzze. Its streets host independent pizzerie, gelaterie, craft bars, and the city's football (calcio storico) tradition.

The Oltrarno ('beyond the Arno') is Florence's artisan quarter, a less touristic neighborhood of craftsmen's workshops, bohemian bars, and neighbourhood trattorias. Santo Spirito square is its social heart—a leafy piazza with a Brunelleschi church and evening aperitivo scene.

The San Lorenzo quarter is the bustling neighbourhood around the Medici's parish church, dominated by the daily leather-goods market stalls that fill the surrounding streets. Beyond the market hustle, the Medici Chapels and Central Market are here.
