Neighborhoods in Goa (Panaji)

Old Goa was the former capital of Portuguese India and at its 16th-century peak rivalled Lisbon in grandeur. Today a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its monumental churches and convents are spread across a small area about 10 km east of Panaji.

Fontainhas is Panaji's charming Latin Quarter — narrow lanes, colourful Portuguese-era townhouses, tile-roofed villas, and heritage chapels. Settled in the late 18th century when the capital shifted from Old Goa, it is now a designated Heritage Zone.

Assagao is a quiet, tree-lined village in North Goa's Bardez taluka favoured by long-stay visitors and food enthusiasts. It retains traditional Goan character — Portuguese-era houses, chapel squares, paddy fields — while hosting excellent cafes, boutiques, and yoga studios.
